Capital Power Announces a Long-Term Renewable Power Purchase Agreement with Dow
Capital Power, a Canadian power company, recently announced a long-term agreement with Dow, a global leader in materials science. The agreement will see Capital Power supply Dow with 55 MW of renewable energy for a duration of 15 years. The move underscores Capital Power`s commitment to using renewable energy sources to power its operations and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This agreement comes after Capital Power`s recent purchase of the 97 MW Buckthorn Wind project in Texas, which is expected to begin commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2018. The wind farm will generate around 350,000 MWh of renewable electricity per year, enough to power over 29,000 homes.
Similarly, Dow is recognized as a company that is committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The company has set a target to reduce its annual carbon footprint by 5 million metric tons by the year 2020. This agreement with Capital Power will help achieve that goal and support Dow’s vision of creating a better future for the planet.
The energy supplied to Dow will come from Capital Power`s Bloom Wind project, located in Kansas. The Bloom Wind project features 250 MW of renewable energy capacity and started commercial operations in December 2017. The project comprises of 100 wind turbines, each producing 2.5 MW, and has the potential to power over 68,000 homes annually.
This agreement with Dow is another step forward in Capital Power`s long-term strategy of increasing its renewable energy portfolio. The company is committed to achieving a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2030. The Bloom Wind project and the Buckthorn Wind project will contribute significantly to this goal.
In conclusion, this agreement between Capital Power and Dow is a significant milestone for both companies` efforts to promote sustainable development. By adopting renewable energy sources, companies can reduce their carbon footprint and promote a cleaner and greener future. This partnership not only benefits the two companies but also the environment and the society as a whole.
